Odessa is alive – even in war
Anyone who comes to Odessa today will experience a city full of contrasts.
In June 2026 the beaches, cafes, restaurants and nightlife will be busy again. Locals and tourists enjoy the special atmosphere of this unique port city on the Black Sea. Especially in the evening hours, it becomes clear that despite the war, people are trying to retain a bit of normality and joy in life.
The war has now lasted so long that everyday life has changed. People know what happens in the event of an air raid, react prudently and carry on with their lives - as far as the security situation allows. Visitors have also learned to deal with this situation responsibly.
However, this does not mean that the war is over or that there is no longer any danger. The threat remains real at all times. All the more remarkable is the courage of the people who do not let their joy of life, their culture and their hospitality be taken away from them.
Odessa impressively shows that hope and the will to live can exist even under difficult conditions. The city lives - with caution, with responsibility and with the firm desire for peace.
